How incredible would you feel if you knew you were the reason someone was healthier and happier in their life by following your new behaviours?
We all appreciate that eating healthy food and exercising regularly has amazing benefits - you improve your health, you get fitter, stronger and feel all-round on top of the world. However, have you ever noticed how it can affect those around you too?? family, friends, work colleagues?
New research from the University of Connecticut has found out that when one half of a couple starts their journey to losing weight, their partner often drops the pounds too – even if they're not trying. How amazing is this?
The study tracked 130 couples over six months and discovered that when one half of a couple was taking part a weight-loss plan, a third of their partners also lost three percent or more of their body weight, despite not participating in any fat-loss plan themselves. INCREDIBLE!
It's what the lead investigator of the study Professor Amy Gorin calls the ripple effect. "When one person changes their behaviour, the people around them change," says Gorin. "And their new healthy behaviours can benefit others in their lives."
You may have experienced this if you participate in a new class or group activity? Soon everyone is asking how they can get involved too and so the ripple begins? So I ask again... How incredible would you feel if you knew you were the reason someone was healthier and happier in their life by following your new behaviours?
